When I started attending Frank Phillips the fall of my junior year of high school, I had no clue where I would be today, with the exception that I wanted to go to West Texas A&M University. Bit by bit over 2 years I took core classes, and by the time I graduated high school, I almost had a whole year of college out of the way.
By that time, I had decided I wanted to pursue a degree in music therapy. Music had been a huge portion of my growing up years, starting at 6. Piano, violin, and singing. That's where it was all at.
Freshman year at WT was a joyful mess. I cried from stress, I ran around like a chicken with my head cut off, I quit my job, but I pretty much loved every moment of it. And the best part of it, is that I found a core group of friends who supported me and held me when I couldn't handle it anymore. And friends who would just sit and cry and vent with me. People to walk alongside me. My relationship with God grew immensely, as I found a church home that still strives to help me grow in Christ and as I learned how to really search out my faith.
At the end of the first year, I was going strong in music therapy.
At the end of the summer, I changed my degree. Read why, here.
I now get to graduate a year early, which means even though I'm technically in my sophomore year here at WT, it's also my junior year. As I started the new school year, everything felt a little upside down. I knew that God had led me to change my major, but it definitely took me awhile to adjust to communication studies. It was rather emotional, but I am happy to report that as I write I just finished up midterms, and I am enjoying my classes and the degree I have picked. I'm still not sure were I will apply this degree, but I have ideas rolling around in my head, and God has it all under control.
6 months ago, I had no idea this is where I would be. But here I am, striving to live for God in the midst of changes and struggles.
There is no progress if there is no struggle.
