When Life Consumes

I've been telling myself I need to post an update on life. And every time I sit down and try to write, my mind goes blank and my life seems dull.

The one thing I can think to tell you about is a life lesson I'm currently processing. I may be processing it the next four years, but hey, acknowledging it is good.

Last week, the 3rd week into school I was already letting things mess with my mind. A million little things began to consume me. Monday and Tuesday I was swallowed by how "busy" I was. As much as I seriously don't want to admit this, it almost became an attention thing. "Look at all I'm doing!" The funny thing about the things we do to draw attention to ourselves, is that it never brings any satisfaction. Maybe for a moment, but after that moment is over--poof--we're back to being miserable, needy, attention-grabbers.

I am happy to report that by Wednesday, I came to my senses. God placed certain things in my life to make me realize exactly how over dramatic I was feeling/being. He gave me the strength to realize I needed to move on from all the unnecessary distractions that had been created.

It's still a struggle. Those times when I'm tired, uncaffeinated (Yes, I know that is not a word), or just plain feeling insecure are when I feel the need to be consumed by my "busyness." But I know that God is by my side patiently reminding me of His grace, goodness, loving-kindness and mercy. Yes, music majors have busy schedules. No, BethAnn is not the first to be one of those busy music majors. God is bigger.

And a song to end this post:

Blessings!

Move-In Week

Wow. It has been an interesting three days. Not that much has happened that is super exciting to tell, but my mind is on name overload and there is a lot of processing going on.

I definitely miss people back home, and especially today I missed my Perryton kids as I stood around watching all these kids I don’t know attend meet-the-teacher at the school I am working at. But all in all, I’m quite happy to be here! And my co-workers are fun to be around, so I think I’ll like my job a lot.

The University has a bunch of fun things planned for our last few days of “freedom” before school starts, but honestly, I’m already in the zone. I’m already thinking about all I have to do next week, which includes an audition on Tuesday, so I have to be practicing these next few days.

I have really felt an overwhelming sense of love from everyone back home. Especially the last few days I was home. I was driving and heard a song that said something about how great it is to be loved by Someone unseen (speaking of God). And as a parallel, I’m still feeling everyone's love, even when I don’t see you. Thank you.

The Meaning of Ready

It is now 2 weeks until I leave for WTAMU.

The most common question I get at this point is, "Are you all ready to go?"

Pssssh. Ready. What does that even mean? I've packed a few things, ordered most of my textbooks, and bought a couple notebooks. I really should start the tedious task of going through my closet and doing some real packing. I dread it.

But beyond the physical side of being ready is the mental readiness. Most days I feel confident and the words, "I can do this!" run through my mind. And of course the thought of moving and starting something new is exciting. But then, I have my days. My freakout days. Those days where I say, "What in the world am I doing? I can't handle this! This is going to be so much harder than I can even imagine. Why am I even trying?"

I don't want to be one of those people who tells you to "follow your heart" and "follow your dreams no matter what." Because if you are a Believer in Christ, your dreams (or hopes) are actually God's. So I think we have to be careful and check if we are following after our sinful hearts or after God's will.

That said, I see the above quote and realize that no matter what journey I chose, whether it was a different major or a completely different path, in order to make progress it would have to have been difficult and scary. God calls us to step out of our comfort zone. And it would be pointless if it was easy.

So, two weeks and I will be leaping into the next adventure in life.

Ready, set, go, because God has it under control.

One Step Closer

Today starts the one month countdown. It seems fairly long, but also very short at the same time.

This last week brought about two exciting events. I went to New Student Orientation on Thursday and Friday. Not only did I meet a lot of people (most of whom I do not remember their names), but I was also able to make a connection with the Baptist Student Union. That was very encouraging and continues to be, knowing that the next four years of my life I will need lots of support to stay strong in my faith.

I also had my graduation party on Saturday. Thanks to those who came--y'all made the day great! I feel so blessed by the people in my life who have helped me get this point in life.

Blessings!

Beginnings

In a little over a month I am heading off to study Music Therapy at West Texas A&M University. I don't know if it will really hit me until I move in and start classes. I'm looking forward to signing up for classes in a couple weeks.

I wanted to start this blog to keep people updated with my life. So, if you would like to be updated, please follow! Thanks for checking out my blog. Enjoy!
